Fish Oil or Krill Oil

I always like to give my clients the truth and nothing but the truth when it comes to questions they ask. Well one that keeps coming up over and over again is Omega 3 and where is the best resource to get it – fish or krill. If you take fish oil, you may have heard about krill oil--a similar supplement that can pack in even more Omega 3s, Omega 6s, and other health-benefiting ingredients then fish oil.

Like fish oil, you may have heard that krill oil can improve your entire body’s health. But many krill oils are even more powerful and can be safer than Omega 3s from fish oil. This is because Krill Oil doesn't contain the mercury many fish oils do. However, high quality fish oil doesn’t contain mercury so this marketing ploy used by makers of krill Oil is a myth. As you know there are a lot of different products out there, and they aren’t all what they’re cracked up to be. Some companies will throw anything in a bottle if they think it will make them money, but you already know that.

Most high quality Omega 3 products aren’t cheap. So if you’re going to spend good money on a product, it better be a great. This common concern is one of the reasons I have done extensive research to find out who is full of sh*t and who is telling the truth. The fish oil makers will say their oil is the best and the krill oil maker will say their oil is the best – nothing new right.

For both krill oil and fish oil to be really effective, it needs to have the right ingredients, including lots of Omega 3s (DHA & EPA) and it should also feature astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant that some oils have. A new study has determined that adding the antioxidant astaxanthin to fish oil reduces its susceptibility to oxidation while making its immunomodulatory properties more potent.  Now krill oil has astaxanthin already build in, while fish oil products add it to their formula. But remember krill is a shellfish similar to shrimp and are bottom feeders. For anyone who wants to follow KOSHER or Levitical principles of eating they will want to stay away from shellfish like Krill for similar reasons of not consuming pork. Now with that said let me wrap this up for you because I tend to get off on a tangent and my whole point to this post was to make it short and sweet.

So I am not going to bore you with pages and pages of research so I will just cut to the chase and tell you what my conclusion is.

So besides looking for these key ingredients in Omega 3, I also looked for positive customer reviews and I analyzed the company’s reputation: is this a company that popped up solely to sell krill oil and fish oil, or are they an established supplement manufacturer known for researching their products and only using the best ingredients? And are they willing to have their products tested by a third-party testing.

Here is my conclusion: If you choice to use Fish Oil the best products are:
